marticus -> Remove Exch2k from a 2k DC (6.Jan.2006 1:26:40 PM)
|
I've just implemented and moved from exchange 2000 to exchange 2003. It has now come time decomission the old exchange 2000 sever, but as it sits, it's installed on a domain controller. This was also the 1st domain controller in the organization, it's 2000SP4 with exchange 2000 SP3. We currently have 1 other 2000 domain controller (SP4) and 2 2003 domain controllers (SP1), none of which have exchange installed on them. My question is, I know that having exchange installed on a DC is not supported nor is it best practice per MS, so I'm having difficulty finding any documentation on the matter. I'd like to remove exchange from the DC but want to make sure that there are no other precautionary measures, apart from the obvious full backups, that I should take before doing so. I'd hate to somehow screw up the AD Schema or corrupt the database etc. What I've done, is: all FSMO roles have already been transferred to other servers, mailboxes are moved, public folders have replicated and been rehomed, there are 2 other global catalogs on the other 2003 DCs, the routing group master has been changed, the RUS masters have been repointed.... and I'm assuming that the 2000 server will remove itself from the organization and the SMTP connector once successfully remove exchange 2000. Has anybody had to do this before and if so, how did it go? Anybody from MS want to chime in? Thanks.
