The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.

Exchange System Manager

Recently I took over for a...less than uber... admin that didn't really know what he was doing.  Now I get the job of cleaning up the network, and getting things to work.  Management recently decided they wanted to install Exchange 2003 Enterprise, on a clustered system.  Now that I have the cluster installed and working, I'm trying to replicate the public folders (office calendar .. etc) from an old exchange 2003 server... upgraded from 5.5 to 2000 to 2003...to our new cluster. When I right click on the public folders, select folder properties, I get the following error message.

'The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.'

Anyone have any ideas?

In exchange 2000/2003, public folder management in system manager is basically handled by EXADMIN in IIS. If you go into IISAdmin --> default web site --> Exadmin properties --> directory security -> click on the last EDIT button at the bottom. Make sure SSL is NOT required for this directory. Do the same for EXCHWEB too then from a command prompt run IISRESET.

Great response, I don't think I would have worked that out in a 100 years. Solved it for me.

Fantastic and thorough info !
Had a similar issue with the Public Folder Move from an SBS 2003 to SBS 2008 server. Same error when chosing "Move Replica"

Applied those two changes and had no issue.

Thanks
