WSS folder names are determined by the user's email address in the Primary SMTP domain, so if johndoe has an email address johndoe@yourdomain.com (assume that yourdomain.com is your primary email domain), then the folder name is johndoe (it's usually the same as the user name, but not always), and the OWA URL is https://servername:443/exchange/johndoe .  Does it make any difference if you go straight to that?  You can't use OWA at all if you don't have an email address in the primary domain.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I didn't know that.

Guess what?

johndoe's email address is:

johndoe@myotherdomain.com

The primary domain is:

mydomain.com

Oh woe.

Rather humourously, this does of course mean I had no need to disable the access all those months ago.

However, what on Earth am I to do now? You've obviously isolated the problem, I now need to find a solution.

Any ideas?

Add another email address to johndoe's account in ADUC (you can have as many as you like), something like johndoe@mydomain.com would be the first thing that springs to mind, or if you want something less obvious, xyzzy1@mydomain.com .  The email address doesn't have to be the default one - but it does have to be there.

Or, create another Exchange Virtual Directory in ESM for myotherdomain.com .

WoooooHoooooooo!

You the man!

I created a virtual directory,  but that didn't make any difference. However, I then added another email address to the user in the main domain, but didn't set it as the default. I then restarted the server and Bob's your Uncle!

Thank you so much for your help. It was most appreciated.

I'm glad it worked - you shouldn't have needed to restart the server, though, probably just waited a while for the addition to replicate.  Did you remember to go to the new VDir name, instead of the existing /Exchange one?

I needed to restart the server anyway, so it was no hassle.

I didn't realise I had to change the URL as well. Obvious now you mention it.

Thanks again!
