I just upgraded Exchange Sever SP2, running on SBS 2003 SP1.  Everything went fine locally, but now I can not log in to OWA.  The log-on page comes up just fine so I know it is running, but when I type the username and password OWA says:

"You could not be logged on to Outlook Web Access. Make sure your domain\user name and password are correct, and then try again."

In the past we have always logged on using our user name and password.  (first inital last name) and this does not seem to work any more.   All services are running and I suspect something changed with the IIS, but I don't know where to look. 

Any advice?

Have you tried typing "domain\username"?

I actually discovered that username@domain.local (as opposed to .com) seems to work now.  I do not know what changed or how to get back to using just username as the log in.  Do you have any suggestions?

I've discovered the same issue.  Domain\username or username@domain works just fine.  I don't have that many OWA users, but if this can be corrected it would be nice.

If you go into exchange system manager, under protocols -> http -> virtual server. open the properties of Exchange and check the Mailbox Path (eg domain.com) on the first tab, verify all users are stamped with this email address (doesnt have to be primary). Still in the properties of Exchange, go to Access tab and authentication. Type in the netbios name of your domain and try OWA.

No luck.

Mailbox path and netbios name are both correct.  What I'm getting is that it's trying to authenticate to the public domain rather than the internal/private domain.  After the first logon attempt the logon box comes back and adds myOWAserver.mypublicDomain.com\username.  I'm running split dns and it should be authenticating to the internal domain.  This wasn't an issue before SP2...although server 2003 sp1 was installed at the same time.

Have you guys turned on the Forms based authentication? I think once this is done there is a artcile somewhere on msexchange.org that will tell you to insert the netbios name in the form so when a user types in a username and password it pre appends the domain name (netbios) before the username.
