Hi, i recently had exchange server installed and setup, i couldn't recieve incoming mail and was advised to uninstall exchange and reinstall it to hopefully simplify my problems the only problem is after i uninstalled it.....now i can't reinstall it. I ran forestprep and domainprep just fine but when i choose to install exchange i get the message:
"The component "microsoft exchange messaging and collaboration services" cannot be assigned the action "install" because to install the first exchange server in a domain, or to run setup in /forestprep mode, you must be an exchange Full administrator at the organizational level. You must use an account that has been granted the Full Exchange Administrator role on the Exchange organization using the Exchange Administrative Delegation Wizard."

My problem is that i cannot run the wizard because Exchange manager is no longer on my machine, and the security groups it mentions are no longer on my machine either!!!! Is there a way i can remove all instances of exchange through registry and reinstall it that way? Is there a way to gain these security rights through making them myself?

ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!!!!!!

thanks,
matt

Hi,
Start Active Directory Users and Computers Locate the Exchange server machine account, right-click the machine account, and then click Reset Account.

Let me know if this will resolve your problem

Go through article 833396 How to remove Exchange Server 2003 from your computer {http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;833396} and make sure all the registry entries mentioned have been removed. Also since you had exchange removed, was IIS reinstalled after that?

create a new account and make this user member of all the members which are required to install exchange.

refer:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/828765/en-us

Moreover if value of msExchangeSchemaPtr= 6970 in schema container in ADSI then there is no need to run forestprep again. run policytest from /setup/tools directory of exchange. If u get SeSecurityPage=TRUE then there is no need to run domain prep.

Anyway the best idea would be:

1. Create a new user
2. Grant the permissions to this user (://support.microsoft.com/kb/828765/en-us)
3. Remove Exchange Manually (refer above links in reply)
4. Remove Microsoft Exchange Container from ADSI-->Schema Container
5. Restart
6. If having multiple DC then Replicate AD
7. Reboot and log in from that user (should have log in locally permissions)
8. Install the exchnage server
9. In case of error revert back with Event ID in Application Log (current ones with error) and with specific error.

Njoy!

that sounds great however i do not have the groups you speak of in my active directory and if i would create them manually i would need to know what they belong to and etc...but if i am able to create these groups with correct permissions i will definatly follow your advice,

thanks!

anyone know which groups are needed plus what they have to be granted if created manually??? lol sorry guys!

Try Following the below KB

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822439

also if possible for you do one thing send across the Exchange Server Setup Progress.log file to me on my email at abhijeet.ak@gmail.com

So that i can analyze that. this file would be in the root directory where u r trying to install exchange.

hey...yea i looked at that page and although it seems really helpful its not because i do not have exchange system manager installed!!!!! i can't delegate the control. I think the log file was deleted along with exchange when i retardedly took it out!

I had an idea earlier though and it was to install windows server on another computer...then install exchange on it....then delegate control through that to myself :-)

i'll reply back on how it goes, i'm off to try to save the day!

Even if you delete the .log file it is created everytime you run setup.exe so even this time it would have generated.

can u meet me online on MSN my msn id is kulkarniabhijeet29@hotmail.com

do meet me online will tell u further steps ne ways if u r not able to meet me online then do the following

1. Browse to C:\ delete the Exchange Server Setup Progress.log file out from there if its present.
2. Insert the Exchange CD in the cd drive.
3. go to Start Run type in => <driveletter:>\setup\i386\setup.exe /forestprep
4. Again go to Start Run type in => <driveletter:>\setup\i386\setup.exe /domainprep
5. Again go in Start Run type in => <driveletter:>\setup\i386\setup.exe

Even if this time if you get error then do the following.

1. Browse to C:\
2. There would be a newly genrated file called as Exchange Server Setup Progress.log created out there.
3. Zip this file and send it across to me from my msn id or on my mail at abhijeet.ak@gmail.com

So that i can check out any errors and help you out with it.

If you encounter any errors while running forestprep or domainprep even though after you get the errors click on OK and then exit browse to C:\ there would be this file genrated out there.
This file is genrated whenever you do any installation related to Microsoft Exchange. And this file is always appended whenever you install SP1 or say SP2 or anything like that.

Do let me know what happened as soon as possible.

hey man
the user which has logged on the domain does not have the Domain Administrator right.

[22:45:19] Final set of permissions: 0XF0C0A0A0
[22:45:19] Leaving CDirectoryManager::ScDeterminePermissionLevel
[22:45:19] We do not have sufficient admin rights; m_strDCToUse = "DOMAINSERVER"
[22:45:19] Sanity check:
[22:45:19]   m_strDCToUse = "DOMAINSERVER"
[22:45:19]   m_psesToUse->m_strServerName = "DOMAINSERVER"
[22:45:19] Leaving CDirectoryManager::ScInitializeSessions
[22:45:19] Leaving CDirectoryManager::ScInit

Log on locally to the domain using the domain administrator account and then try running the setup.

and remember to run /foresetprep and then /domainprep.

lemme know as soon as possible..

Solution:

use ADSI edit to edit the schema and
remove the following entry:

CN=Configuration

> CN=Services
> CN=Microsoft Exchange

restart the server and install
(ADSI is part of the server 2003 tools, install server 2003 tools if you don't have it)
