optima -> Mailbox Store keeps dismounting (10.Feb.2006 1:20:20 PM)

I have an exchange 2000 server. All the necessary services are running and there is plenty of disk space. However. the mailbox store fails to mount. I can manually mount it and it appears okay but after a few minutes it dismounts again.
I have gone through all the event logs but there is nothing specific to this. The only one is the H.323 Gatekeeper service fails to start, but to be honest I cant remember if this ever started.
The Public Folders are fine and if I login to Outlook I can see the public folders but not individual mailboxes.
I am rebooting the server later and will run a scan and repair on the hard disks to make sure it is not a damaged disk.
I have moved the priv.edb files to another location on the hard disk but this didnt help.
Any ideas
Thanks
jay

What version of exchange are you using is it a standard or an enterprise edition.
what are the event ids genrated in the app logs when the stores dismount.

Hi
It is Excnage built into Small Business Server 2000. It has been up and running for about 3 years and this has just happened.
I have installed the post Service Pack 3 fixes supplied by MS butit hasnt made any difference. I have scandisked the drive, no difference. I have deleted anything in the smtp queue, no difference. The event viewer shows no errors when it dismounts.
The dismount can be triggered by trying to use outlook to view mail.
Outlook opens but if you try and send a message an error box appears saying "insufficiant space..." and fails to send the message. When I then look at the mailbox store it has dismounted.
Any ideas?

Could it be that your information store has exceeded the 16GB limitation on Exchange 2000 Std?  Have you ever backed the store up with an approved utility that will delete the numerous log files that accumulate (you can use ntbackup for this).
