moony -> Setting up new servers (20.Feb.2006 7:40:40 PM)

Hi all

I want to setup up 2 servers :

The 1st one will be the DNS server and will contain the Active Directory.
The 2nd one will contain exchange 2000.

As this is the first time I'll do this myself, I was wondering if this
configuration doesn't need some special settings, I mean separating the
Active Directory from the Exchange 2000, is it possible??

Thanks in advance.
Moony

Hi Moony,

As far as i know how you want to set up the two server are fine, the first being the DNS server and Active Directory, and the second as the mail server.

Now you have two options with this set up, you can either have the second one as a domain controller like the first and share the active directory between the two and the advantages there is that if the first server fails because of hardware or software you can continue to have users and mail being handled by the second one and you can still function untill you get the first one back online.

The second option is to make it a memeber server, in which it does access to the Active Directory, but there is one catch, if for some reason the first was to fail due to hardware or software then well you will not be able to receive mail or use the active directory untill you are able to bring the first back up online.

Hope this suggestion is helpfull in your setup, and if you need any more info you can message me and could offer any suggestions i might have,

Best Regards,

Douglas Massiah
