Hi, im pulling hair out with this one.
I am not able to change the smtp listening port to anything else but port 25 and recieve email for my domain
To change the default listening port from 25 to another port I am doing the following.

Under the smtp folder - Hightlight my default smtp virtual server connection, select properties, under the advanced tab on the general page change the port from 25 to 2525.
Restart the SMTP virtual server connection.  Telnet servername port 2525

220 exch01.XXXXXX.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 6.0.3790.1830
ready at  Sun, 26 Feb 2006 18:18:53 +0000

So my port is listening on port 2525. My router is configured to allow smtp traffic through port 2525.
I can send emails out from my domain no problem, but never get any emails back, its like my netgear router is not forwarding the request to port 2525.

If I change the listening port back to 25 and configure my netgear router smtp traffic for port 25 then hey presto I can send and receive fine.

Can anyone give me a few ideas to trouble shoot this further? Im desperate with this one.

All SMTP traffic uses port 25, other mail servers won't know you are set to receive or send on port 2525 and as such will totally ignore your SMTP server.

Changing the port number only works if you only communicate with another email server using that same non standard port.
