fatgrass2006 -> Unable to receive emails externally (5.Mar.2006 9:15:46 PM)

Hi

I have recently setup exchange 2003 in a test environment at home on a dsl
line, curently I am able to send email to internal and external addresses ok.

I am unable to receive any email from external clients or addresses.

Setup -

MX records are hosted by godaddy.com - smtp.futuretechlive.com
Port 25 is open and ready to accept emails inbound - port forwarded
ISP is confirmed 25 is open

Exchange is setup to accept anonymous inbound email

I am using an IIS smtp virtual server and smarthosts (mail should be directed
and received via the smtp virtual server then relayed to my exchange internally)

ISP ---> IIS SMTP Virtual server (accepts smtp 25) ----->relays to exchange
server

External IP ---> 192.168.20.50 (IIS SMTP VS) ----->192.168.20.49 Exchange
server

smarthost - 192.168.20.50 (advanced delivery tab in smtp - exchange server)
exchange - 192.168.20.50
iis smtp virtual server - relay only to 192.168.20.49

I have succesfully proved my relay is accepting incoming and outgoing with
smtpdiag and also checked with portqryui

The above environment is installed on a vmware gsx server via wirelessChecked MX records -
C:\Documents and Settings>nslookup
Default Server:  www.routerlogin.com
Address:  192.168.20.1> set type=mx
> futuretechlive.com
Server:  www.routerlogin.com
Address:  192.168.20.1Non-authoritative answer:
futuretechlive.com      MX preference = 0, mail exchanger = smtp.futuretechlive.
comfuturetechlive.com      nameserver = park23.secureserver.net
futuretechlive.com      nameserver = park24.secureserver.net
smtp.futuretechlive.com internet address = 62.3.254.77
park23.secureserver.net internet address = 64.202.165.107
park24.secureserver.net internet address = 68.178.211.117
>I still cannot receive incoming email, almost frustrated now.

Any help appreciated

rytmehans -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (5.Mar.2006 9:30:40 PM)

Hi,

I just tried to telnet 62.3.254.77 on port 25. No answer so you need to check the internet connectivity.

fatgrass2006 -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (5.Mar.2006 9:53:04 PM)

Hi

I just tried telnet with my friends DSL and received

220 RELAY.homenet.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 6.0.3790.1830 ready
at Sun, 5 Mar 2006 20:45:15 +0000

Is this incorrect?

telnet ip address 25

Should I receive a different screen on telnet

TCP port 25 is port forwarding ok

damiant -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 10:07:05 AM)

Just tested . Seems fine. Queued a mail.

fatgrass2006 -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 10:14:42 AM)

Hi Damiant

I can also send a message remotely to my external address xxx@futuretechlive.com, but the exchange server is not receiving emails and delivering the message to the internal mailbox.

damiant -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 10:21:16 AM)

I believe it was your Exchange server that I hit.
I queued the email.
Have you checked the MessageTracking ?
I sent the mail to administrator@.....

Let me know if you find the email

What client are you using ?

fatgrass2006 -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 10:30:17 AM)

I have not received any incoming emails (none whatsoever), the admin account has no email in outlook or webmail but can send externally with no problems. Probably after 1hr-45mins you may receive a delay or non delivery report sugguesting it cannot delivery the message (I receive these on my ISP email account when sending to any xxxx@futuretechlive.com account)

How do I setup MessageTracking and what will this provide?

Unfortuntely I don't have remote access to my exchange server at the moment (although it is available online to send and receive - when I manage to get it working [8|])

fatgrass2006 -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:07:52 PM)

I would really like some help with this issue if possible, still unable to receive any incoming email from external addresses.

I am also prepared to give remote access for someone to do a "sanity" check on the configuration.

Any Exchange guru's online?

Velocat -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:21:01 PM)

Hi Fatgrass2006,

What do your queues report?

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Queue_Viewer_Improvements_in_Exchange_2003.html

Let us know.

Velocat -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:25:31 PM)

Also,

I am currently getting the following:

C:\>telnet 62.3.254.77 25
Connecting To 62.3.254.77...Could not open connection to the host, on port 25: C
onnect failed

fatgrass2006 -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:40:43 PM)

Hi

All queues are have green tick (indicates a ready state)

fatgrass2006 -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:41:36 PM)

Please try now

C:\>telnet 62.3.254.77 25

All help appreciated.

Velocat -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:43:36 PM)

Ready state is fine, but you should see your test messages in there if they have not been delivered.  Can you see them?  If the queues are empty you should use your message tracker to determine where they went.

Velocat -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:46:29 PM)

C:\>telnet  62.3.254.77 25
Connecting To 62.3.254.77...Could not open connection to the host, on port 25: Connect failed

fatgrass2006 -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:46:32 PM)

Yes, they are all empty.

Im a newbie on exchange, how do I setup message tracker and watch where the messages go?

Velocat -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:47:54 PM)

Review this article...it's got a little more detail than just the tracker, but it's well covered.

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-2003-Message-Tracking-Logging.html

Keep us updated.

Velocat -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:50:04 PM)

Hey,

I have to apologize...I forgot and was running the telnet tests from a box that I'm blocking outbound port 25 on...my complete mistake.

I can successfully telnet to your port 25.

Hopefully I did not cause you to pull your hair out too much.

My apologies.

fatgrass2006 -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 7:59:29 PM)

Hi

Will I need to reboot the exchange server before I use message tracker?

I am receiving the following error -

The tracking database on msx01.homenet.com is not available or the messages has left the exchange organisation.

I simply turned on the message tracking and then emailed myself from an external address to my exchange email (if that makes sense)

Sender - my external email
Server - msx01
Recipent - administrator@futuretechlive.com

And ideas?

Velocat -> RE: Unable to receive emails externally (6.Mar.2006 8:07:17 PM)

No Reboot is necessary.

In Exchange System Manager on the server properties, click  the General tab, put the tick in the option 'enable message tracking'.

Then try resending emails.
