Messages that contain a period in the subject line (".") do not display when accessed using Outlook Web Access via the web, the problem is not present when accessing messages via the LAN (e.g. http://servername/exchange).  The error displayed in the browser window is "Page cannot be displayed... File not found", there is no specific "error 404" etc.  OWA is published via ISA 2000.  I have not run the IIS lockdown tool on the exchange server (which is Windows 2000).  We are running Exchange 2000 on a single server.

I have spent hours trying to get to the bottom of this, any help much appreciated.

Do you have 'Verify Normalization' (check Configure HTTP properties) on your OWA rule?  That might cause this kind of problem.

I can't see any options for 'Verify Normalization' on the OWA publishing rule, excuse my ignorance but is this an ISA 2000 option?

I only have ISA 2004, but I think there will be something similar in 2000, to prevent http directory traversal attempts.  Did ISA 2000 come with URLScan?  See if you can find a URLScan.ini file on the ISA server.

Genius!  The urlscan.ini on the ISA server blocks ".." and "./"

Removed these restirctions, problem solved.

Many thanks
