mikehunt31 -> exchange 2000 permisions (19.Apr.2006 12:08:00 AM)

i have recently installed exchange 2000 with sp2 onto my windows 2000 server sp4 AD Domain Controller, running dns, dhcp, iis and wins.

i have noticed that when i open iis the the following directories are displaying an error icon instead of the usual webfolder icon:

directories showing error:

Public
Exchange
Exadmin

i have also noticed that there are no permisions set for the MBX folder on the M: drive and that i cannot access any of the mailbox directories on the M: drive.

the systemmailbox user account is also disabled.

i have installed the same version of exchange onto another server and have found the same problem.

have i missed anything on the setup?

cannot find any info on this problem anywhere.

can someone help me out ???

Hi Mike, first things first, don't tinker with the permissions on the M drive or you will probably break your installation Microsoft actually recommend disabling the EXIFS drive so that you and other people (read viruses) can't tinker with it. Also, I hope you don't mind me pointing it out but installing Exchange on to a DC isn't recommended. It can be done, it's just that future proofing and restoration becomes an issue.

You may find that there is nothing wrong with the install at all. I'm sure I have seen this myself in the past. The best way to check if it is broken is:

1. Open a web browser and go to http://yourexchangeserver.yourdomain.com/exchange
2. Try to log in to Outlook Web Access (OWA). If you are successful, click the Folders button to show your mailbox's folders.
3. Click Public Folders to see if you can access the Public Folders section. If you can successfully access the Public Folders section of Outlook Web Access then there's probably nothing wrong.

Let me know how you get on.

Lewis

just discovered from

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=101&eventno=634&source=NNTPSVC&phase=1

that if you restart the default website in iis after reboot the error icons disappear.

thought this may be handy!!
