hiltmundel -> Public folders GONE (15.Jul.2006 5:30:42 PM)

Dont laugh but I think I set my permissions on my public folders to deny everyone and now they are gone. Well the database is still there but I cant see them from Exchange or Outlook. We are running SBS2003. Where do I go from here?

Hi.... Here is how you can bring back your babies to daddy [:D]

Use the PFDavAdmin Tool.

1. This tool is available for download from the internet at the following site:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=635BE792-D8AD-49E3-ADA4-E2422C0AB424&displaylang=en

2. Download it and run it from the Exchange server. Extract the exe.

3. On opening the tool click File --> connect

4. Type in the details and connect to Public folder.

5. Expand the PF tree. Go to the folder which you cannot see using OL and ESM.

6. Right click the folder and click "Fix folder Dacls".

7. Leave the defaults for the next window and click ok.

8. Close and open outlook before checking.

mmmm... perhaps that salute was a bit premature.
I followed your instructions could now see the folders from the Exchange System Manager but when I go to a client machine I get this error "Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook cannot access the specified folder location. Could not open the item. Try again."

Have I missed something?

Mad_deamon -> RE: Public folders BACK HOME (25.Jul.2006 5:11:34 AM)

Hi Hiltmundel,

Well now i think it is a permissions issue. Can you try adding yourself as owner using the same PFDavAdmin and then checking with your outlook to see if you can see the folders?

Here is how to do it.

1. open the tool click File --> connect

4. Type in the details and connect to Public folder.

5. Expand the PF tree. Go to the folder which you cannot open using ESM.

6. right click and then click folder permissions.

7. Add your account and give yourself owner permissions.

Apply these changes. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the salutations :>

hiltmundel -> RE: Public folders BACK HOME (25.Jul.2006 8:02:43 AM)

Mad
Thanks for the advice but I checked the permissions and I am there but still cant access them, though I can see them from exchange sytem manager and I can browse there contents.
Something else I noticed in the exchange system manager if I select
public folders>anyfolder>rightclick>properties>permissionstab>permissions I get this error

The attempt to log on to the MS Exchange Server has failed
The Mapi Provider has failed.
MS Exchange Server information store
ID No: 8004011d-0512-00000000

ID No: c1050000
Exchange System manager

What does this mean?

Mad_deamon -> RE: Public folders BACK HOME (26.Jul.2006 3:49:35 AM)

Hilt,

You would need to give me more information now.

Are you seeing any corresponding events in the app log? like a 9175 or something?

Is this permissions error happening when you check on all PF's?

Also coming back to the problem PF's, You can see the problems PF's as well as browse its contents in ESM. correct? The only problem is when you try to view contents in Outlook. Right?

Thanks,

Mad_Deamon

Altech_sysadmin -> RE: Public folders BACK HOME (26.Jul.2006 8:56:27 AM)

Hi Hilt,

Had a very similar problem recently, public folders where hidden from esm & ol

we used PFDavAdmin Tool, we could then see the folders in ol  no content visiable ,error was something like 'access denied - server not configured correctly'

Still could not see them in esm, found the following document

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=300444

found that inheretance had been broken, reset inheretance & reset permissions

dsacls will tell you the current permission & help you modify ,

you can get dsacls after installing the suptools.msi found on your windows 2000/2003 server cd \support\tools

Hope this helps

Good Luck

hiltmundel -> RE: Public folders BACK HOME (29.Jul.2006 8:52:27 PM)

Hi guys
I get the following two entries in the log

Warning
Event ID 3113 MSExchangeFBPublish
There was a problem retrieving the list of public MDBs associated with the TLH with GUID "F1D2C6B3-CDD7-4A5D-8F18-A525AF26A3D5". The entry "/DC=local/DC=hillsidechurch/CN=Configuration/CN=Services/CN=Microsoft Exchange/CN=HILLSIDECHURCH/CN=Administrative Groups/CN=first administrative group/CN=Servers/CN=OMEGA/CN=InformationStore/CN=First Storage Group/CN=Public Folder Store (OMEGA)" was not found in the directory. The item may have been deleted.
This problem may resolve itself after directory replication and regular directory maintenence completes.

Error
Event ID 8197 MSExchangeFBPublish
Error initializing session for virtual machine OMEGA. The error number is 0x8004011d. Make sure Microsoft Exchange Store is running.

Does this info help?

Altech - I have been through what you metioned and thats how I got my folders back as at first I couldnt see them from the ESM.
Now I can see them from the ESM but not from any clients.

hiltmundel -> RE: Public folders BACK HOME (29.Jul.2006 9:01:05 PM)

Mad sorry I didnt read your reply properly so let me now answer.

Yes.. it happens with all the PFs in that I get the error.
and yes I can see all the folders and there contents in the esm
but not from any Outlook clients.
I also get syncronisation errors in all the outlook clients and this is my main reason for sorting this out as there is nothing I really need in my PFs. If I could maybe just reinstall them that would be fine. Can that be done?
Unfortunately I did not back up my Pfs otherwise I would have restored them.

Thanks
