Duplicate emails - 8.Aug.2006 10:02:14 PM

We are using Exchange 2003 standard, which we installed roughly four weeks ago.  Since implementation we've had an issue where email enabled contacts receive a copy of an email for each CC in the email.

For example if I received and email and it was cc'd to three people, I would receive one in my mailbox at the office, however I have a email enabled contact in active directory that is used to send a copy of every email to my personal email account at home.  The problem is that when I receive the emails in my account at home I receive four copies, the one I should receive, followed as in the example above with another three copies which correspond to one for each person cc'd in on the email.  I would like to stop the duplicates and receive only the one email that I would expect to receive.

If anyone can help me on this I would be very grateful.

I do not connect directly to the office from home, the email is received in the office mailbox and then a copy forwarded onto my home email account, which is a pop account - I use the exchange general tab, and the delivery options where I am able to nominate a contact to forward mail to.

Hope that helps...

have u set a copy of message to leave on your server.

have you set forwarding from server?

do you have any rules in outlook set ?

i would start troubleshooting by deleting all rules, use mdbvu32 to check for any ocrrupt rules and delete them.

try again with no rules in place.

I leave the message in the inbox, and forward a copy on to my home email account.

The forward is set on a per user basis from the Exchange General-->Delivery Options-->Forwarding Address, checked deliver messages to both forwarding address and mailbox

I'm not aware of any outlook rules.

Will checkout with mdbvu32 and see what happens.

Do you have updated antivirus & Spam software ?
any interesting thing on the event logs?
do you see any connection you think is not legitimate, Check queues
and turn your SMTP logs
investigate firther, to see how many times an e-mail went out from your e-mail organization (Message Id)
only way to find out if message is duplicate within the company or outside , forged e-mail
ask one of the recipient send you multiple  dublicated e-mails , and have a good look the headers each one
to determine what hapened...

Best

Hi, I am having the same problem - do you know of any resolutions?

I setup a new SBS 2003 server a few months ago and this problem has been evident from the start.  The users within the domain all receive X number of duplicates if the inbound mail is CC'd to X amount of receipients.

Its very frustrating and I cannot see any options that relate to this.

All clients are using either Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2003.

I have not added anything to the recipeint policies, other than the various domain names that my client has.

Does anyone have any useful info on how this may have occured?  it's starting to drive me nuts

Can you verify if you have this SBS patch which is know to produce duplicate emails.

Hi, many thanks for the tip - I tried that hotfix but there was no change when I tested.  I restarted the server to see if it made any difference but there wasn't.

I also found KB833992, but this has not worked either.

Do you have any other ideas?

This appears to be the default behavior after reading your question again.

Exchange Server Connector for POP3 Mailboxes deliver multiple copies of messages
