Hi,

I am trying to find where an smtp address is in my public folder structure. I've tried the find feature but I don't think I'm using it correctly. Can some one help me out?

Thanks

Chris

I have an smtp address. I don't know which public folder in my heirarchy has this smtp address associated to it. I'd like a way to search for the smtp address and in return find out which folder it is associated with.

yes, you can search for the public folder using the active directory users and computer and give a custom search for proxy address or alias ame.

OK thanks. I tried it but I didn't find anything. I then tested the search for an smtp address that I know exists (and where) and it didn't work either. I chose custom search> field > Public folders> proxy address as well as Alias. Any other suggesstions? Am I just doing this wrong?

OK it didn't work either. What I did was leave the proxy address or alias blank and it brought up all the primary smtp addresses for our email enabled folders. Curiously it didn't show the additinal smtp addresses of some of the folders. Some folders have 5 Smtp addresses associated with it and the search seemed to only find the primary address.

use ldp.exe

in LDp click on connection, select bind enter username, password and domain.
click on view --Tree  in BaseDN  Enter CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=x,DC=y,DC=z,DC=com
My Ad domain is basically x.y.z.com.
click on browse, select search

in BaseDN enter  CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=x,DC=y,DC=z,DC=com
in filter select (objectclass=publicfolder)

select subtree  and click on run.

you should be able to view all information regarding public folders. copy it and save it a notepad and search for smtp address.

Can't find email address in your organization

Here is the great tip for searchig SMTP address

Go to AD Users & Computers, right-click on
your Domain | Find | change the Find drop-down to "Custom Search" (you could
also change the "IN" drop-down to "Entire Directory" if you have more than 1
domains) | go to Advanced tab | type
type this into costum search box

proxyAddresses=smtp:user@domain.com
