I have a problem. As part of the evaluation of Exchange 2007 I would like to investigate the new unified messaging feature. I am running a test setup in a virtual sense, that is, using VMware virtual machines. I can create a new server to handle the unified messaging role, or dump it on the current Exchange virtual box. Question - what do I use as the virtual PBX, and related infrastructure? Being not familar with private teleco systems, I do not have a clear picture. Ideally, I would like to have everything virtual since I can utilize SIP softphones and not purchase hardware. Is there someone out there that has the time to inform me what I can do and where good resources exist.

Thank you.

Cheers
Carl

MS have created a UM Soft Phone, but currently it's only made available for TAP and RDP customers. Hopefully they will release it to the public sometime in the near future.

Thanks,

However, I have another question. After installing Exchange 2007 Beta 2 there is an executable called ExchangeUMTestPhone.exe. According to TechNet this is the UM test phone (see link below), by a different name. I assume I can use this, correct?

Whoa!!! Very nice..I couldn't help but to notice that you left out or well the person who made it left out alot of things..

For example. The AA was never setup so you could never get the voice activation.. Also he used 5 digits in his demo to show how to setup the DialPlan yet he added 6 #'s to the assosiated number.  If i can remember correctly this will not work...So im not sure how he got the voice mail to work..But hey if it works.. it works.  Also i would like to know what kind of gateway this person was using because he was able to just turn it on without having issues with the DTMF along with a few other things.  I don't mean to "bash" people on this but at the same time i don't want people to put this into production not thinking about all of the things behind the scene.

Hello,

I tried the testphone with Exchange 2007 beta2.
The dll's and the siptestphone.exe are on the beta2 cd. I read the beta documentation on the Microsoft site to configure the phone. You have to copy and paste the files to \bin \pubic and winnt\......(fortgot the dir).

The problem is that one dir does not exist. the one in the Winnt\ass......\....\....
An other problem is that there are allready dll's with the same name. Do I have to overwrite them. When I tired to start the sip phone it crashes. Evenviewer gives a .net error. >net is installed.

Can anyone tell me how I have to install and test the sipphone for demo purposes.

Regards,
Remco
