I have an Exchange 2000 running on Windows 2000 Server. This server is a dc, gc, dns, etc. and the exchange database is about 11Gb big. About 1 month ago, i had a problem with one of my drives. Altough they were set in RAID-5, i changed the faulty drive, but there still seemed to have been some type of corruption. I backup the information store using the common Windows Backup tool but when i do the verify, in the event log it says that the backup file is corrupt and that the file may not be restored.

So now i cannot backup my information store (which i am not comfortable with). I have been suggested to install Exchange on another server, move the mailboxes onto the new server, do a database check on the 'corrupted' server and if everything is good, move the mailboxes back. Is this a feasable idea? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

1. First what event id error are you getting ie. 1018 errors etc.
2. If there is corruption, yes rebuild a new box and move mailboxes to this new server. Do not perform a database check on the corrupted server and if everything is good move mailboxes back. There is no need for that. Rather, delete the database, create fresh clean database and move the mailboxes back.

What version of Exchange 2000 are you using Standard, Ent or SBS?
There might be a couple of options open to you.
