Hi All, I need to uninstall exchange 2003. There are still 3 mailboxes left on the server that I can't delete or move (it won't let me) SMTPSystem AttendantSystemMailbox When I try to uninstall, it says there are still active mailboxes on the system I need to either move or disable. Any idea how I can get rid of these 3 mailboxes? This server was upgraded from Exchange 2000 if that helps. Thanks Lee

these mailboxes are created by the Exchange installation. Is this the only exchange server in your environment? are you planning on removing the entire exchange organization or just this server? How many domains do you have in the forest? Have you searched in active directory to see if there are any user accounts that show they have a mailbox? 1. Open AD users and computers on the exchange server. 2. right click the domain and click find. from the drop down menu, select EXCHANGE RECIPIENTS 3. Select the checkbox for USERS WITH EXCHANGE MAILBOX and find the accounts. 4. if you do find any users with mailboxes that are on that server, right click the account, go to exchange tasks and select to remove exchange attributes. Wait for replication or force the active directory replication and try the uninstall again.

You can use Active directory sites and services from the domain controller. Expand the sites/servers/your_DCs/NTDS settings and right click on the connection objects on the right pane. select replicate now. do this for all your domain controllers and all connection objects as well.

Ok so I did that and I am down to two mailboxes now. SMTP(SERVERNAME-{SID}) System Attendant Both those also exist on the new server, the SMTP one though with different SID & Server Name If I do the search in active directory I get 2 SystemMailboxes in the format of SystemMailbox{SID} SystemMailbox{different SID} On of the SID's matches the SID of the SMTP mailbox on the new server. The other one I can't see anywere. My network is setup like this All mailboxes and email (SMTP) goes through the new exchange server. The old one I'm trying to uninstall now. I have one forest, one domain, no complicated routing. Thanks for the help btw.

Tried, same error message. Are they are other things I can manually trigger that may clean up a lingering mailbox that has been marked for deletion or something?

Wow, when I did this those mailboxes didn't seem to cause an issue - anyway, In the ESM locate the stores that you have left click on the mailboxes section and the select run cleanup agent and then purge any mailboxes that you have left (you might have already tried this). A
