lesterw2 -> Setup fails with "FCACHDLL.dll was not found" - Problem with drviss.dll (20.Sep.2006 4:19:34 AM)
|
I am running a new Windows 2003 R2 x64 with all Windows updates. Whenever I try to install Exchange Server 2003 Std, I get to the Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" step and I get the error: Setup.exe - Unable to Locate Component This application has failed to start because FCACHDLL.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Eventually, it results in the error: Microsoft Exchange Installation Wizard Setup failed while insgtalling sub-component Information Store Service with error code 0xC007007E (please consult the installation logs for a detailed description). You may cancel the installation or try the failed step again. The dll in question is in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. I copied it to the Windows folder and to the Exchange/bin directory and the problem still occurs. The server is configured with IIS, ASP.NET, SMTP, and NNTP as per the prerequisites. The server is a domain member. Nothing else is installed. I have gone through a totally clean install twice now to no avail. Retrying just loops in place. Cancelling leaves a half-way installed Exchange which can't be uninstalled. All that I can do is Setup /RemoveOrg and then blow away the server completely (to ensure cleanness). I believe that FCACHDLL.dll is part of the SMTP service (which I've verified multiple times is installed). It gets stuck around the stage of "Configuring registry entries for Information Store Service" and then the popup about FCACHDLL.dll. Then I click OK (the only option) and get the second error where I can click Retry. Then it goes through a step "Stopping the service MSSRCH" and the FCACHDLL error pops up again. It removes the registry entries and then a step about "MSExchangeIS" goes by too fast to read. In the setup progress log file, I've found that the problem is with registering the DLL C:\ExchSrvr\bin\drviis.dll. Looking at Microsoft KB article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=888177, I verified atl.dll was registered. I tried to manually register this dll, but I get a LoadLibrary("drviis.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found. I also found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292439/en-us which references exstrace.dll, but it was present. dvriis.dll version is 6.5.6944.0 and is described as the "SMTP Exchange Store Driver - IIS". Anyone have any ideas? Has anyone installed Exchange 2003 Server on a Windows 2003 R2 64-bit (Intel) server?
