Hi Everyone,

Is it true that by using Outlook auto archive feature will reduce the size of the information store?
I mean by setup outlook to archive certain folders to local C:\drive.
Currently, some users' mailbox sizes are over 780Mb and I hope I can use the auto archive feature in Outlook to cut down the disk space in my information store.

It will actually reduce the amount of data in the Information Store.
It will NOT reduce the physical size of the database. The only way to do that is to run ESEUTIL /D

In order to shrink your DB, you will need to schedule downtime and perform an offline defrag. I would suggest you look for event id 1221 which will tell you how much whitespace you have. In other words if you were to defrag your DB, it would shrink by this much.

Thanks James,

Where do I find event 1221? it is not showing up at all in my event log but I am getting event 9582 all the time in yellow exclaimation mark.
