bernard_dijkhuizen -> stop big emails from internal users (23.Oct.2006 3:03:01 AM)

Hello All,

Recently my exchange database was grown too big to work with. Problem was, someone tried to send a cd through mail. Of course, I've change the max sending size at different levels but nevertheless, someone can try to send a large email anyway.

What happens: user creates email of 640 Mb, sends it with outlook to mailserver, mailserver doesn't accept is and sends it back to user.

result: 2 x 640 Mb in datastore.

Is there a good way to prevent this happening. It would be great a user can't even try to send it but if that is not possible, it would be a good thing, the client  only gets a message and not the original email.

any help would be great.

Best Regards,

Bernard

You can strip attachments from NDR messages. The caveat

However, there are drawbacks to this implementation of Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) attachment stripping. If you enable this option to strip the attachments from the non-delivery report (NDR), the details that are necessary to display the notification in the preview pane are also stripped, and the originator of the message cannot use the Send Again option. If the originator of the message tries to use the Send Again option from the NDR, the originator of the message receives the following error message:
Unable to resend the message. The nondelivery report does not contain sufficient information about the original message. To resend the message, open it in your Sent Items folder, click the Actions menu, and click "Resend this message". However, the originator of the message cannot resend the message, even by using the method in the error message.
