Is there a way to export to a PST file the mailbox of a deleted domain user. I have done the restore process of a database during the desired time and tried exmerge, but I get an error message in the exmerge log and the user I want is not listed Management wants to look a past employee's email, but it seems that since the user account was removedis no longer part of the domain, I can not get to it?

Does the mailbox still appear in ESM? If so, you can create a new user (without a mailbox) and reassociate the mailbox to that user. If the mailbox no longer appears in ESM, then you can use a Recovery Storage Group. What is the error in the ExMerge log?

Sorry for the delay to your qucik response, only 24hrs in a day ;) The mailbox is not in the ESM anymore (deleted the user and mailbox months ago) I followed the steps for the RSG and see the box. I was attempting the step step process to create a PST This is the ExMerg Log (I am assuming the three skipped are all deleted users) **************************************************************** Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Merge Program, v6.5.7529.0 Start Logging:October 31, 2006 13:21:57 **************************************************************** [13:21:57] Logging Level: None [13:21:57] Reading settings from file 'C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\EXMERGE.INI'. The error is telling you that the user object doesn't exist. If you've deleted it (as opposed to disabling it) you'll need to recreate it. I found a nice explanation of things, but you'll need to filter through it to find the applicable part. Bring up the page and search for the string "error!". http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=336793

Thanks for the info.... OUCH, not the solution I was looking for, but atleast I have a solution For those readers who want to know. "In normal mail store, we could create a non-mail enabled user and connect the orphan mailbox in storage via Mailbox Wizard. However, in the RSG, it is not possible. We need to manually create new user and replace the msExchMailboxGuid via ADSI."
