guitarman -> Mail enabled public folder (13.Nov.2006 11:38:41 AM)

I have set up a public folder and mail enabled it so that I can use an auto reply rule to a distribution group. Everything works fine when I use an outside account such as hotmail or my home account but when I email from within the organization I get a system undeliverable message that the account does not exist. Can anyone shed any light on this?

How many public folder servers do you have?

Just the one. We only have one Exchange server.

Possibly nickname cache issue. Do you see this object in the GAL? If so create a new message and reslect this object from the GAL instead of letting it auto complete.

Yes I did this but for some reason it still bounces back.

Grant yourself send as rights for this pf. "Send as" this pf to your account and try to reply to it.

I did as you instructed but I could not send as the pf. I was denied sending as even though I gave myself the permission.

Maybe I'm not supposed to email the pf as I would from outside the organization. If I give a user access to post to the pf then they can put content in to the pf and it circulates to the distribution list and sends the auto reply back to the poster. This is essentially what I was trying to accomplish. It just doesn't work if you try to email the pf directly from inside the domain. After posting the message I get the message sent to my email address as I am in the distribution list associated with the pf. I then can reply to it.

Hmm, you should be able to send to this pf internally as well as externally. Do this, try sending to it from OWA instead of Outlook.

It does work when sending for OWA. That is really strange. It still won't work when trying to send as a regular email from the Outlook 2003 client. But if you post it directly to the pf (providing you have the access to do that) then it works. I still think this is by design.

Can you post the full NDR message? Also have you tried sending to it from another user's profile+computer?

guitarman -> RE: Mail enabled public folder (13.Nov.2006 5:25:31 PM)

As you can see the message indicates that the address doesn't exist. It does indeed exist as you can email it from OWA. You can email it from any account outside our organization and you can post messages to the pf which in turn forwards them to the distribution list and everyone that is a member. You just can't email it from inside the organization using outlook 2003..

Has this folder been deleted and recreated by chance?  Are you letting Outlook autofill the address from a recently used list?

If either of the above are true, outlook could be trying to send to the previous incarnation of the public folder.

DaveKOregon -> RE: Mail enabled public folder (17.Nov.2006 8:48:10 PM)

I am having the exact same problem.  The same NDR is generated.  The problem happens only when sending Email to the Public Folder from within the domain.  Sending through OWA works, as well as SMTP from a source outside the domain.

I am running Exchange 2003 SP2 server on Windows 2003 Server SP1.  I have been running Email enabled Public Folders successfully for some time.  Last weekend, we applied the two service packs (no service packs were previously installed).  All mail-enabled Public Folders created since applying the service packs have this same problem.  Could the service packs have introduced the problem?

Has any progress been made diagnosing the problem in this thread?

That's strange. Try this, send to this public folder using SMTP and not through mapi client.

Telnet to the exchange server on port 25 and mail from: youraccount to rcpt to: the public folder.
