Hello

I have a cluster BE (A/P) and a FE server (2 nodes NLB).

I understand OWA users to access the FE server to serve the OWA pages.

But outbound mails, a lot of people suggest they go through the FE server - what are the reasons?

What is MS best practice?

Also what is the cost (in processor or whatever) in sending mails to a mailhost or directly to the internet (by dns).

Thanks

You can have internet based email go out directly from your BE or FE. Some prefer one or the other. Some people use FE, for example if they have many backend servers, so all backend servers go out the FE, which makes it more or less easy management.
