ncoyne -> Ex2k3 Email Routing Issues (14.Dec.2006 11:18:34 AM)
|
Yesterday I applied an exchange 2k3 update kb924334. Once it was applied it brougt to our attention a problem that we have been having since September 2006 which we were unaware of. It seems that some users in our organization have sent messages to recipients with known good email addresses and the message was never received until yesterday immediatley following the applied update. When I investigate further into the sitution by tracking a particular message by one of these users it shows that the actual message did not get submitted into smtp queue until yeserday after the update applied. It is like the message went into a black hole for two months, it was not sitting in the users mailbox and it was not in queue and the user never received a response back from the system administrator account in exchange until yesterday that it was undeliverable and did not report a specific reason. This problem is with random users and random emails. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be happening? What is the actual process that an email takes once it is sent from a user's mailbox.
