cammy -> Strange email duplication and disclaimer issue (13.Feb.2007 6:54:55 AM)

Hi

This is a strange problem and I am not entirely sure myself what the problem is.

We have been using Exclaimer for some time to add a disclaimer to outgoing external emails only with no issues.  I recently added a new primary email domain on our SBS 2000 server and run this concurrently with the old one.  Since then, some incoming emails sent to the old email addresses have a disclaimer added to them.  Exclaimer is configured to add a disclaimer to outgoing only so I can't understand why this may be happening.

I have also noticed that if, for example, someone sends an email to both my personal hotmail account and the old email address (both in the To: line), the email will be delivered twice to hotmail.  The first one will be the original and the second will be the same but with our disclaimer added as if it has come directly from our server.

I understand that I have not explained this very well but if anyone can fathom it, I would be grateful if they could help explain what might be happening.

Cheers

Cammy

It sounds like everything addressed to the old domain is getting routed somewhere else before finally being delivered (both inside and outside).  Check Message Tracking.  Check the message header of one of these to see where it's been.

Try this with Yahoo mail so you can see the header - if I recall correctly hotmail does not give you that option.

Thanks for your reply Dean.

I sent an email from my bluebottle account to the the old email address (say for example cammy@mar.com) and copied in a yahoo account.  The message was received immediately into the Yahoo account.

Our server polls for messages every 15 minutes and just after the message was received, a second email was sent to the yahoo account.  The second message to Yahoo had the disclaimer on it although it comes up as being from Bluebottle.

I have the message headers here from the second message and would be willing to let you see this if you think it will help.  I would be reluctant to post it to the web however.

Thanks

Cammy
