smtp logs

Status: offline 		When a machine sends a message to smtp does it send all commands at once or does it wait for an ok response to send the next one. The problem I am having is that a device on our network needs to send a message via smtp, but the logs only show a helo, mail, and rcpt entry. The data command is never logged.
