I have installed an Exchange 2007 Server into a existing existing Exchange 2003 Organization.
Recipent can send mail from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2003 Recipients, but Exchange 2003 recipients cannot send to Exchange 2007
I have created a RoutingGroupConnector both during installation of HUB Transport and I have tried to manually create a Connector with cmdlet, both with no luck.
Can anybody help

And the RGC you created manually using the New-RoutingGroupConnector cmdlet was bidirectional right?

I donīt known if it was correctly created as Bidirectional. Is there a way to check if itīs Bidirectional.

Okay you then might want to delete and recreate the existing RGC in order to see whether this solves the problem.

Hey Henrik
My case is solved..... Yeppppiiii.
This is what I did
I deleted all RGCīs, create a new RGC with CMDLETS. My problem was that our Default SMTP Virtual Server was configured to send all mail to a SMART HOST. This will not work.
Instead I created a SMTP RGC to send outgoing mail.

Good to hear you got it solved...
A good rule of thumb is always to use SMTP connectors, when you got more than one Exchange server in the org. This is also true when speaking Exchange 2000 and 2003.

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem & the removal of the Smart Hosts entry resolved it. Many thanks for the tip.
Can someone explain to me;
1. Why an email send from EX2003 to Ex2007 would attempt to use the SMART HOST path which, to me, implies that the email destination is outside of the organisation when infact it is clearly to an internal mailbox, just on a different server?
2. If I want to continue to use SMART HOST, how I can achieve this & have mail flowing from EX2003 to Ex2007 as well.

I am having these same issues. I have removed the RGC connectors and readded them. We have a smtp virtual server that uses a smart host, what do we need to do to be able to send email from 2003 to 2007 but still use the smart host because the smart host does our spam filtering.

Using a smart host to send outbound emails is perfectly fine as long as it is not configured on the Default SMTP virtual server. Instead, you can create an SMTP connector to send outbound mail and have it redirected to the Smart host as opposed to using DNS. This is configured on the properties of the connector.
When you configure a smart host on the default virtual server, all internal mail from one mailbox to another will also be redirected to the smart host. In the case you have multiple exchange mailbox servers, this also includes public folder replication messages. As I've experienced, having PF replication messages go through a smart host breaks PF replication between exchange servers.

I had the same problem and after fumbling a bit finally understood the instructions.
On the Exchange 2000 server:
1. Modify the Default Virtual SMTP server so it does not use a smart host.
2. Under the Connectors tree, create a new SMTP Connector (not a new virtual SMTP server). When configuring this connector specify the smart host. In the Local Bridgehead configuration tab add in a link to the original Default SMTP Connector.
