gosta100 -> Exchange 2000 domain controller (3.Mar.2007 7:11:39 PM)

Hello,

   The question is fairly simple: does Exchange 2000 need to be installed on a domain controller? Can i demote a domain controller that holds Exchange 2000?

Thank you.

Exchange does not have to be installed on a Domain Controller. In fact it is recommended that it is not installed on a domain controller.

Yes that is correct, but the question is: can i demote a DC Exchange 2000 without problems?

Hiya, I did an article on this sometime ago here: http://telnetport25.blogspot.com/2006/08/recovering-exchange-onebox.html

However you should know that it is NOT supported in anyway by Microsoft, and if you decide to go with it you should have a FULL backup of Everything, and ensure that you have a fully working DC in the domain with the FSMO and Exchange Domain Contollers Dependant tasks transfered over to the new DC (RUS for example) and allowed for replication to have taken place before hand.

Cheers,.
