This is the first time I hear of this issue. Some one in our company gets the following error when sending mail out. We have two backend servers and two front end servers in our environment. I downloaded Metabase Explorer and verified that the Fully qualified domain name is "servername.company.com instead of "mail.company.com" Can I just change the value in systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\metabase.xml to use the FQDN? 554 <servername.company.com>: Helo command rejected: Host not found; from=<tom.@company.com>

Thank you for replying. The entire error our user gets when sending email to someone@activevoice.com is There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator. <servername.company.com #5.5.0 smtp;554 <servername.company.com>: Helo command rejected: Host not found> Our exchange server is using its netbios name instead of mail.company.com.

You do not need to edit the metabase, you can verify this from your smtp virtual server. Unless your ds2mb replication is broke then you will need to edit in your metabase. Resolution: 1. Open Exchagne System Manager. Navigate to Administrative Groups, Site, Servers, Servername, Protocols, SMTP, Default SMTP Virtual Server, 2. Highlight Default SMTP Virtual Server, right click properties. 3. Go to the Delivery Tab, and click Advanced Button. 4. In the "Fully-qualified domain name: field, enter your fully qualified external domain name. Click Check DNS to verify that it resolves. 5. Restart SMTP service.
