I was hoping that you could help me with a problem, or maybe point me to someone that can help.

Here’s my problem:  I cannot view any other co-worker’s busy / free time availability.  Their status bar shows diagonal stripes and says “No Information”.

* I’m running Outlook 2007 connecting to Exchange Server 2007 (I thought this would have the best compatibility).

*Everyone in my office has set their permissions to read busy/free.

*Everyone else in the office (about 20 people) is running Outlook 2003 and they can see everyone else’s busy/free status.  I’m the only person using Outlook 2007 and I’m the only person who has this problem.

*If I use a different machine and log into  Outlook 2003, then I can see everyone’s free/busy availability.

What is happening with here?  Is there a known problem with Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2007?

I appreciate any help and consideration.

Best Regards,

Hi Rich,

Opposite Outlook 2003 and ealier version (which uses Public folders), Outlook 2007 uses the new E2K7 Availability service to lookup free/busy information. When working this basically gives to live free/busy information from the other users in the org.

Try this:

  • Hold down CTRL while right-clicking the Outlook icon in the Systray
  • Selecting Test E-mail AutoConfiguration
  • Enter your E.mail address and password, then de-select Use guesssmart and Secure Guesssmart authentication
  • Hit the Test button

Do the different Availability tests succeed?

Henrik,

Thank you for addressing my question. I did the emaill auto-configuration test and the autodiscover failed.  I'm not really sure what's happening and why it failed.  Any ideas?   Here's a screenshot of my test results:  http://farm1.static.flickr.com/161/421017524_5c6158908c.jpg?v=0

I am having a similar scenario except my tests succeed for Autodiscover. Here's my Setup:

Exchange 2k3 box with users
Exchange 2k7 box with just me on it.

The Exchange 2k3/Outlook users can see my Free/Busy but I can't see there's. Ideas?

If all of the users are on Exch 2k3 and you're the only one on 2k7, how are they able to see your free/busy if they aren't connecting to the same Exchange server?

The mechanism for getting free/busy info is different for Exch/Outlook 2k3 compared to Exch/Outlook 2007. Exch 2k3 doesn't use Autodiscover, which Outlook 2k7 is dependent on for free/busy info. My guess is that is part of your problem.

I understand the methods are different (E2k3 uses Public folders vs. E2k7 using availibility service), but as I said before everyone on Exchange 2k3 w/ Outlook 2k3 can see my free and busy just fine, I can not see there's. I have verified that autodiscovery is working properly, and Public folders are replicating fine, any other ideas?

I would imagine it has to do with the fact your users are connecting to Exch 2k3 and you're not. 2k7 is sharing the info with your 2k3 users, but Exch 2k3 is not sharing this info with Exch 2k7. I don't typically run a mail enviroment on two totally different versions of Exchange, so I haven't run across this much. I'm willing to bet once the 2k3 users are using Exch 2k7 all will be gold.

Yeah that was my guess. The thing is from my understanding if Autodiscovery was working ok, public folders were replicating ok, then 2k7 should be able to show free/busy from 2k3 through availibility and vise versa. Just kind of frustrating since we won't be able to a quick cut over and need to run it in tandem for a while.

It would seem Exch 2k3 doesn't create the info the same way, so Outlook 2k7 has nothing to go on even though Autodiscover is working.

According to this I should still be able to see free/busy off a 2003 target mailbox even though my mailbox and client are 2007.
