Hi,

Just concerned about the possibility of upgrading a single Exchange 2003 Ent. system to a 2-Node cluster "using MS cluster server"
  1. Is it possible to preserve the same host name of Exchange server and use it as the virtual cluster name such that we don't have to re-configure Outlook clients?
  2. Is it possible to move the current information store to the cluster system without loosing email box ID's such that all users will be able to connect to their mailboxes without any problem

The goal is to make this upgrade process completely transparent to all users with no loss of data or reconfiguration issues

Kindly advice

Thanks

Best thing for you will be configure a cluster with a new Exchange Virtual Server Name.

And then move mailboxes from your to newly created cluster. Outlook will be able to point to new server once they are launched.

Any further questions. I'm here

I am doing the same scenerio. I have an additional question, do you setup as a new or deploy first exchange server or select deploy additional servers? My instinct would be additional as you are still running the original exchange instance and to keep AD happy.

You can only have one exchange organization within a single active directory forest. Since you already have an existing exchange environment, you would want to select additional server deployment.

Thanks, I thought so but I haven't been able to find docs for a scenerio like this but had to pull from many areas and make some conclusions. Thanks again and I am sure some more questions will arise
