Hello.
I have installed Exch 2k7 and are suffering from some hard-to-fix attachment size issues.

Firstly, when using Outlook 2007 i could not attach more than 10MB in one e-mail.
After verifying that no such limit was set neither on organizational level nor on user mailboxes, I found that a edit of of the following using ADSIEdit should solve it;
Configuration->Services->Microsoft Exchange->Organization->Global Settings->Message Delivery (properties)
I edit the values of DelivContLength and SubmissionContLength to required kilobyte size in integer, Unlimited just to make sure. Active Directory needs to fully replicate, and Outlook / Outlook Web Access will need to be restarted to have effect.
When running the Best Prctises Anylyzing tool, the report shows that the Maximum Incomming Message size is not set, and the Maximum Outgoing Message size is not set.
Still the server can not recieve external messages above 10MB.
NOTE: Internally on the domain there is no size limit after the above mentioned actions.
E-mail to external recipients fails with following error:
#550 5.3.4 ROUTING.SizeLimit; message size exceeds fixed maximum size for route ##

Secondly i have yet to find a way to allow for sending large attachments with the OWA client also. Any tips as were to go next?

Regards.

Well. it seems i found out where the bottleneck was set.
Using ADSIEdit again I changed the following:
For incoming e-mail:
CN=Configuration\CN=Services\CN=Microsoft Exchange\CN=<Organization>\CN=Administrative Groups\CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)\CN=Servers\CN=<Server Name>\CN=Protocols\CN=SMTP Receive Connectors
msExchSmtpReceiveMaxMessageSize 10485760 <-changed to-> Not Set

For outgoing e-mail:
CN=Configuration\CN=Services\CN=Microsoft Exchange\CN=<Organization>\CN=Administrative Groups\CN=Exchange Administrative Group(FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)\CN=Routing Groups\CN=Routing Group (DWBGZMFD01QNBJR)\CN=Connections
delivContLength 10240 <-changed to-> Not Set

Restart Outlook for changes to take effect.
Case closed on this matter, BUT on the matter of the OWA size limits, I'm still walking around in darkness.
I have yet to find out where to change this.

Added: Unfortunally a new error msg appeared:
552 5.3.4 Message size exceeds fixed maximum message size

For outgoing e-mail the limitissues seems to be fixed.
For incoming the problem remains.

Hi

You could check on the transportConfig settings on your transport server.

use the monad command :-

get-transportconfig | fl *

and see what is the setting for MaxRecieveSize. If it shows unlimited, then the value of
10240KB is taken by default. check the article below

You could try setting the value for the above parameter to a higher value in MB by using the following command :

set-transportconfig -MaxRecieveSize 30MB ( or any value you require )

This should ideally help you..
Check the below technet article on why the size limit is set ...

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb310771.aspx

Hi prashant_dv.

Thanks for your reply.
I have the following oputput using the above mentioned command:
MaxReceiveSize                 : 1000000KB
MaxRecipientEnvelopeLimit      : unlimited
MaxSendSize                    : 1000000KB

So this setting should be sufficient.

Regards OK

Hi,

Did you set the message size settings with the command and did it resolve your issue ?

Just wondered if you fixed this issue as I have the exact same problem, Connectors all set fine, receive limits all set, globals limits all set to 30mb.  Nothing over 10Mb will come through.  If you found a solution please let me know.

Thanks

Hi.

Im afraid I havent had much time to look into this matter during the past two weeks, but I will try to look at it again now.

From what i understand hunglikethor seems to have got it working, based partly on this thread, so a visit to his thread might help some.

In the meantime I will try to get a working solution on my end, and update this thread.

I just finished going through this would like to add some comments.    First and formost the CLI commands...Set-TransportConfig, etc do not do anything until you follow OK's second post.  It was interesting to make a CLi change on a single Mailbox and see the change appear in the GUI (in Mail Flow settings).

I followed OK's things but ran into some problems.  On the inbound mail, when I set the msExchSmptReceiveMaxMessageSize to "Not Set"...all mail stopped flowing.   That'll make the blood rush from your head.  So I figured the 10485760 was an exact number of the 10mb limit.  I multiplied it by 5 hoping to get me to 50m.  I entered that number into the 3 spots where I found the MaxMessageSize entry.

The outbound mail I'm not so sure, I entered Not Set about the time the mail stopped flowing, so I multiplied the 10240 times 5 hoping for 50m and entered that into the field.

all is working fine now.  The changes didn't take long to get in, less than a minute I had mail backed up in our spam filter coming in.   Biggest file I tried was 25mb.

I haven't looked at OWA yet but am about to.

Seems to be a lot written on this subject so I'm glad I was able to get it going with some help in a couple hours of digging.

BTW some info on our setup, running 2 DC with a fresh MS 2003 server.  MS 2007 Exchange is a new install, not an upgrade.    There has been a little learning curve with 2007 since I've been running 2003...since 2003.  But there are some nice feature I'm getting use to.  The CLI seemed to be a step backwards and I REALLY miss Exmerge as a daily backup.  I hear that's coming back in SP1.

Good Luck,
Rob

I have gone over all my settings and by changing the CN=Configuration\CN=Services\CN=Microsoft Exchange\CN=<Organization>\CN=Administrative Groups\CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)\CN=Servers\CN=<Server Name>\CN=Protocols\CN=SMTP Receive Connectors
msExchSmtpReceiveMaxMessageSize i also got this to work.

The OWA remins limited tho.
I been told that the changes have to be done only in the web.config file, but it does not seem to have a impact here.

Hey Guys,

Have you tried to run this one:
Get-SendConnector | select Max*
and
Get-ReceiveConnector | select Max*

You will find that the default value for MaxMessageSize for both sending and receiving  is set to 10MB.

You can change this by running this:

Set- SendConnector  –identity <Name> MaxMessageSize 30MB

Kind regards

Dommerby

I too was having the "552 552 5.3.4" problem.  Here's some help with the syntax:

To find your send-connector identity: (name is after the first CN=)
Get-SendConnector | select DistinguishedName

To find your receive-connector identities: (name is after the first CN=)
Get-ReceiveConnector | select DistinguishedName

Then plug the identities into these Set statements: (make sure you're running this on the exchange server where the connectors are running, otherwise you must prefix each identity with the server name... as in "MyServer\identity")

Run for each Send Connector:
Set-SendConnector -identity "identity from above" -MaxMessageSize 20MB
Run for each Receive Connector:
Set-ReceiveConnector -identity "identity from above" -MaxMessageSize 20MB

Cheers,
Bart
