Dear friends, help me please to fix that annoying problem.
Configuration:

Back-End Server: W2k3 Std. SP1 (2048 RAM), Exchange 2k3 SP2 (all hot fixes), McAfee Group-Shield 6.02 w/Anti-Spam.
Front-End Server: W2k3 Std. SP1 (2048 RAM), Exchange 2k3 SP2 (all hot fixes), , McAfee Group-Shield 6.02 w/Anti-Spam.
BE to FE connection 6kat 1Gb Ethernet.
LAN to WAN through CISCO PIX (SMTP/http/https ports forwarding to FE)

OWA works fine sending plain text messages. User able to login from inside and outside of LAN with no problem at all. Interface is working just fine.
Issue: Once user attaches ANY file through OWA the attachment becomes broken (corrupted). It could not be opened by recipient  no matter what client software is used. It happens every time and not depends on message direction (local user- local user / local user – external recipient) and connection point (LAN through OWA / WAN through OWA).

There is no any  problem sending attachments through the regular Outlook (XP/2003).

Have searched through MS and NAI knowledge bases w/out success. Somebody help me, please!

Firewall is a CISCO PIX but it doesn't matter if you use OWA from local network or from behind the firewall. ISP? What is it?
Yes, we did test with Groupshield disabled (not uninstalled) - problem remains. Unfortunately GS is our corporate standard for antivirus and we can not uninstall it completely.

Hiya P, I would bet money that this is GSE (I had a similar problem).
Can you let us know what the settings are in GSE for;

File Filtering
On Access Scan
and any policy groups that you have defined and what they are attached to in the Scanning engine.

Hi Andy! Thanks for reply! Can I just export my GSE setting to XML file and post  it over here somehow?   Or there is an other way to post GSE settings? Should I post both front-end/back-end configs?

Thanks again!

P.S. the config file is here. Unfortunately I don't know other way to attach file, sorry. Real e-mail addresses changed by fake ones, I hope you don't mind.

Cool I will have a look - is it all attachments or certain ones - for example Word / Excel?

Cheers

Hiya Palan, I will come back to you Monday / Tuesday about this, I have some family issues at the moment. I promise that I will look into this.

Also could you post a copy of the Product Log screen after a message with an attachement has been sent - thanks.

A

Maybe totally off track here but remember seeing something about this that the temp directory needs permissions set otherwise OWA cannot temporarily upload the attatchment.

Secondly the size as IIS by default doesnt like files larger then 2mb on upload I think but it can be changed by editing an IIS config file (wmm.ini or something like that)

Yeah, that is what I was starting from. Everything is in order. OWA stores attachments temporary w/o any problem.

I'll check that asap, but the size of attachment is not an issue. It happens to file no matter what size it has.

Andy, I'm not sure if it makes any sense, but product log hasn't change after message was sent. Actually, product log isn't changing quite often.

Here is Productlog screen

Palan, I am very sorry for the amount of time that it has taken for me to get back to you, things have been a little hectic with my family situation.

Try the following;

Make a backup of your GSE configuration (as you have done for me)
Obtain the latest release of GSE which is 6.0.1148.179 (which contains an Engine update)
Completely remove the existing GSE 6 installation from the Exchange server - then reboot.
Install GSE 6.0.1148.179 and apply the latest super DAT from McAfee
Reboot (you don't have to but just to be on the safe side).
Import your settings back in.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks

Andy, excuse me for bothering you at the time like this. I feel sorry about your dad. I’ve lost my grandma by the same reason couple years ago. I wish I could help you somehow.

I’ll do what you suggest and report here.
Thank you so much, friend!

Andy,
Thanks again for your help. I’m downloading last release of GSE (Apr 5 2007, GSE 6.0.2 repackage with Engine 5100). Not sure if  it is 6.0.1148.179 but it is latest one.  I will do reinstall as soon as I can stop productive servers. I’ll report immediately. Should I install GS602HF312908 patch (Apr 27 2007) as well?

Thank you!

That looks great, not sure if you need the patch - you config file started working fine with the 5100 engine.

Cheers,

A
