Is ISA server necessary at the edge if we are already have a Cisco ASA5520 as the firewall, allowing forms-based authentication traffic to OWA inside the firewall? We also utilize Websense for traffic/app filtering.

With Exchange 2007 in the project plan, I'm wondering if it's really necessary to add an additional layer (ISA) to the edge since we already have a firewall? I would like to try to not stack firewalls, and minimize extra administrative work. The boss would like to see both.

Any opinons are appreciated...Thanks

Deploying an ISA server in from of your Exchange environment is not a requirement but typically a good idea primarily in regards to security (clients get pre-authenticated by ISA before they reach your internal network etc.).
