atledale -> Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 2:22:26 AM)

I just setup my home Exchange server (have done this before), and my server can receive mail through my firewall (DLink DFL-700), but I can only send e-mail internally and to my own e-mail address, which is in a domain hosted by the ISP I use for my Internet. All others stay in the que.

If I telnet to the server using port 24, I don't get full contact, it seems. This is what it says:

220 2003entad.atles.com Microsoft ESMTP
dy at  Tue, 26 Jun 2007 08:21:29 +0200

Anyone got any suggestions on this?

ismail.mohammed -> RE: Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 2:31:48 AM)

Why port 24, and why not port 25?

sharma.satyajeet -> RE: Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 2:34:08 AM)

Some more information is required in order to understand the problem. i.e do you have a static public ip address , you have a MX record hosted on your ISP's DNS server which is pointing towards your public IP address etc and you have to telnet port 25 not 24.

atledale -> RE: Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 4:42:02 AM)

No, I don't have a static Public IP. I am using a dynamic address, and as I wrote incoming mail ok. The MX record is hosted on Godaddy.com, my domain provider. And I telneted to port 25, sorry.

If you see no solution, is there a way to reset Active Directory and reinstall the DNS-server. But there must be an explenation why I can only send to the bbse.no domain.

ismail.mohammed -> RE: Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 5:26:03 AM)

have you checked your firewall whether it is opening for port 25. When you have telnet what is the error message it is giving there?
how is the mailflow from your domain to destination.
Isolate one by one by like try to avoid firewall and try to telnet with destination ip address.
Check whether your server is listening to port 25.

atledale -> RE: Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 5:36:49 AM)

Hi,

It does not give error message. Just the message I wrote in the first mail. FRom what I have read in other message groups, We should get more than that. Try it yourself on smtp.atledale.com .

The mailflow is dead apart from the bbse.no domain, which I wrote earlier, also belongs to my ISP domain.

It is difficult to avoid the firewall, because that is also my NAT router. I have made a policy in the firewall to allow all protocols going out, as well as just port 25. I notice a rule that says "Drop_SMB_all".

ismail.mohammed -> RE: Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 6:16:56 AM)

what is the domain to which you are trying to send email....
can i get the domain name
because i tried to get the query for this domain : smtp.atledale.com
I am getting this result There is no MX record for smtp.atledale.com.
Did i queried wrong domain[:D]

atledale -> RE: Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 6:19:49 AM)

gmail.com

the domain I am sending from is atledale.com

and there must be an mx record, because I am receiving mail to atledale.com

atledale -> RE: Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 6:25:37 AM)

Below are my WAN details. If you ping smtp.atledale.com you will get my WAN-IP. But it is going out that is the problem.

nterface: WAN (DHCP) IP Address: 217.14.11.189 Link status: 10 Mbps full Duplex (autonegotiated)     MAC Address: 000f:3d10:f794 Send rate: 4 kbps Receive rate: 16 kbps   DHCP Status: BOUND Assigned IP: 217.14.11.189 Subnet mask: 255.255.252.0 Broadcast IP: 217.14.11.255 Gateway IP: 217.14.8.1 DNS1: 217.14.0.141 DNS2: 217.14.0.142 DHCPD IP: 217.14.8.1 Leasetime: 21600s

ismail.mohammed -> RE: Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 7:44:24 AM)

Please run EXTRA tool (www.exbpa.com)

atledale -> RE: Outgoing mail only routes to ISP domain (26.Jun.2007 8:45:19 AM)

Yes, I tried it, and it came out with no errors the first time. However I set the e-mail address to send the deliver report to the one in the bbse.no domain. When I run it again, it does not give me the option to change this to something else. It only asks for server and Global Catalog. Very annoying..Did not help to uninstall, delete all links in the registry and reinstall.

I forgot to tell one thing, however, and that is I am running this in Vmware for Servers 1.03. It is allocated 996 Mb of RAM.

When I sent a message to the bbse.no domain and the gmail.com domain, this is what is reported in the SMTP-log:
