Hi,

I have a strange behavior in OWA and cannot understand what I have missed.
When using normal Outlook I can open other users mailboxes (I have given me properties for that). But in OWA I cannot access other users mailboxes, I just get an "You do not have permission to open this Mailbox. Contact your Exchange Administrator for access or for further information."

Any ideas?

Regards,
Ase

What are the implications when you open the users folder while the user is in it? I know in Exchange 2003 the user didnt notice unless you clicked on an unread message and the message went to "Read" status.

I am using Exchange 2007 BTW...

If you plan to read other people's mail without their knowlege and while being ethical about it, you must mark their messages as unread if you open them.  The only other place where there would be evidence of you reading it would be on the users' account in Exchange.  Essentially, their general properties on their exchange account would read "Last logged on by: user".   If you happened to open their mailbox and another Exch admin looked at their properties, they would know that you had been in there.

I got a request from the owner of my company to "spy" on this person. They signed an IT policy upon hiring that any information transmitted or stored on our systems belongs to the company, not the employee. He is fearful that this employee is transmitting confidential company information to a competitor.

Right.  We have the same sort of acceptable use policy here.  Those should be the only two places where a trail would be left (unread messages and general user properties).  Good luck!

why LOOKING his messages.. Just Journal them to another mailbox, or have a blind copy sent to your Enterprise Director.. you should not have to read his mails, but your company's boss.....
