dfosbenner -> Why is sent mail going out on a different Exch server? (20.Aug.2004 8:30:00 PM)

I have an E2000 server and an E2003 server. The 2003 server has a test mailbox on it. I logon to the test mailbox using OWA, create a message, and send it outside the organization. Instead of the message appearing in the Queues section on the E2003 server, it appears in the E2000 Queues.

Why would the message go out on the E2000 server if the E2003 server is where it originated? I plan to remove the E2000 server, and am concerned I may not be able to send mail.

To dedicate one Exchange server to be the bridgehead server (the one receiving/sending external mail) you would need to create an SMTP connector.

But don't worry you shouldn't have any problems when removing the old server, Exchange will automatically figure out how to send mail.

Awesome, thanks ! This weekend is the big cutover.

I had to modify the SMTP connector under Routing groups, added the new server, removed the old. Cycled the MS Exchange Routing and SMTP services to make the change take effect. Now SMTP goes out on the new server.

You didn't mention you had configured a SMTP connector, but yes of course you need to reconfigure it when this is the case [Smile]
