Here's the situation: We have an Exchange server that creates a default accepted domain of foo.com. Some users in foo.com will not be in Exchange, but in another email system that also answers to foo.com. Incoming mail is routed properly to the two systems thanks to a front end.

The problem is when a user in Exchange wants to email a person that exists in foo.com's other email system. By default, Exchange assumes that all of foo.com is in Exchange and complains that it can't find that person.

How can I tell Exchange that if it does not find a mailbox for <user>@foo.com to send it off to the other email system?

This may be a simple question, but I can't seem to figure out what to do.
