Ok, I suspect that this box has the schema master role can you turn it on for a little bit wait about 15 mins and then try Exchange setup again?

Turn the BDC off? Yeah...it is off...it has been off for months..:) The guy I replaced never attempted to fix it..heh.

I fired it up to see what is wrong and it just has a very loud and annoying beep...it is a dell...so something is going bad. It fired up and got on the network fine...but I have now removed it again...

I did the steps above and then tried another install and same thing. It might not have made it through the system yet...I am waiting a little while and will try again. I will also reboot the DC again after hours tonight...maybe after 5pm...noone will notice...the few that remain..:)

I will report back in a few...

Chris

Ok cool, when you did the seize role did it say that it was successful?
I am determined to crack this with you!

Also if the role did seize correctly we may need to go through some stuff on removing that server (desktop) and sort out your replication topology (which is the error that you are getting with DCDIAG).

Good luck mate,

A

What is that now? hehe...is that an error in the process or does it just show that the existing role holder...the BDC is NOT connected and it went ahead and did it? I am going to wait out the changes and try the install again in a bit...

This is looking better, my theory was that the offline dc had the Schema Master role, and the log that you have posted seems to verify this - let me know how you get on.

Cheers

cwallace -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 5:13:45 PM)

I am waiting about 20 minutes before I attempt the install...if that does not work I will reboot everything tonight and try again right after that.

Tufty -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:01:22 PM)

Run forestprep and domainprep from the ADC from Exchange 2k3 SP2 and see how you fair.

a.grogan -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:08:01 PM)

Sorry Tufty, not sure that I understand, Chris does not have the ADC installed, nor Exchange, nor SP2?

Cheers

cwallace -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:10:04 PM)

Failed again...same error. I did run another dcdiag though. Unfortunately the security levels are set so damn high on the newbox I can't even log into this site from there.

I am clearing out all that crap now also. As well copy and past will not work from the command prompt for some reason...

This is getting VERY annoying. Working between two systems really sucks...

Chris

cwallace -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:12:24 PM)

Ok...removed the enhanced security crap...I am now logged on here. I am going to try to do aother dcdiag and post the results here in a minute.

Ok mate, what have you done;

Have you removed the old dc from AD by a deleting it, and can you follow this article to ensure that we have the Schema master in the right place.

Also, run forestprep from the domain controller - not the Exchange server.

Cheer mate,

A

cwallace -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:15:28 PM)

Tufty,

I have tried to run the forest prep from the DC, but it fails with the same error...

Chris

Tufty -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:17:08 PM)

Hi A.Grogan, I was suggesting using ADC to extend the schema. Not install ADC. I've had similar issues a number of times and found using ADC worked for me. Just a suggestion that might have been a quick fix.

cwallace -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:18:43 PM)

You want me to remove the BDC from the AD Sites list and the AD user/computers list?

Chris

a.grogan -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:18:50 PM)

Thats fine, but the ADC relies on the schema extenstions to be in place prior to installation, if it isn't then it will run through the Forestprep process - which is where Chris is having problems.

cwallace -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:19:46 PM)

the DSA object cannot be deleted.

That is the message I get when I try to delete the BDC from the AD on the DC...

Chris

a.grogan -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:21:01 PM)

Hiya Chris, have a look at the article I sent you first, that will help us know for certain where the schema master role is (step 4 in the article) - let me know what server it is then we can make a decision about if we delete anything.

Cheer mate,

A

cwallace -> RE: Installation issue. (6.Aug.2007 6:27:55 PM)

The active directory schema? The operations master is set to 06ffcudc.ffcu

That is the domain controller on the ffcu domain.

Just checked it again to make sure.

Chris
