Hiya mate, I have a sneeky idea that this is to do with GUID's (as you mentioned that the MB was purged from the original store) - can you EXMERGE out the data from the RSG-DB?

Cheers

A

As I suspected mate, the GUID of the new account does not match the GUID of the mailbox – the following is a way around the issue;

In the merge file we have the old GUID of:

\F8\1E\A4\1FN\AE\18\40\BDu\ACG\95\00\1D\C6

What we need to do is remove all of the back slashes from the string – like so:

F8 1E A4 1FN AE 18 40 BDu ACG 95 00 1D C6

What we have is some groups of two digits and some groups of three – we need separate the right most digit out with a space – like so:

F8 1E A4 1F N AE 18 40 BD u AC G 95 00 1D C6

With the single digits we have to convert them from their ASCII values to their HEX values (which can be done using a standard HEX **** – the outcome of which is:

F8 1E A4 1F 4e AE 18 40 BD 75 AC 47 95 00 1D C6

What we now need to do is install a copy of ADSI Edit from the Windows 2003 support tools – Open up the Domain Partition within ADSI edit then find and open the properties of the user that we are working on.

You will need to find the MSExchMailboxGUID attribute on the users account in ADSI copy and paste your new GUID (as per above) into the area in ADSI EDIT and then click OK.

Hope that helps,

Cheer

Andy / Ismail and all those who took time to read this post, many thanks.
I hope others can benefit from this testing in a production environment should they encounter similar issues.

With a recovery storage group are you supposed to right click the store and in properties and select "allow this database to be overwritten by a restore? I have not used the recovery storage group yet myself, but thought I would ask those who have.

When you are ready to import new data from tape, you'll need that set.  Once you've performed the restore, you may want to deselect it so that you don't accidentally overwrite it via another restore.

That what I thought. Might that have been the problem here? In all these posts it was never mentioned. But it would account for him having 0 kb when he did the restore.

Yes, but I would have expected some sort of alert from the backup/restore software indicating the restore couldn't be completed.

Hiya Dean + Tech

Phil found the reason why the restore didn't work was down to a registry key:
quote:

Ismail / Andy and all that posted many thanks for your efforts.
Here is the resolution for others:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS
\ParametersSystem\Recovery SG Override

Set the value to 0

Regards,
Phil.

The other issues he encountered were due to the fact that he had deleted the original account from ADUC - which then led onto a very interested sequence of events.

Cheers

A
