Background

1 Windows 2K Advanced Server had Exchange2K and all AD roles. (mail.mydomain.com)
1 Windows 2K Advanced Server was a backup domain Controller.

I have installed 1 Windows 2K3R2 Server and transferred all domain roles to it.
I have installed 1 Windows 2K3R2 Server and tring to install E2K7.

Issue

All Steps have gone smoothe with the exception that during Setup.com /PrepareAD I get an error that states
"Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory: Domain Controller 'mail.mydomain.com' Operating System version is 5.0 (2195) Service Pack 4. The minimum version required is 5.2 (3790) Service Pack 1."

I know this is referring to Windows 2000 verses Windows 2K3, but I thought you could have a DC running 2000 as long as there were no FSMO Roles.

Is my next step to demote the existing mail server from being a Domain Controller? What about my other DC running Windows 2K?

Any help would be appreciated. BTW, Henrik, your book is great.

Hi,
I guess it is not able to contact windows 2003 GC. so here we can force the command to look that specific server only

I just don't get it. I ran the commands above with the exception of all domains. We only have the one domain.

Ismail,

I ran it and everything turns out fine. I just get a warning about the IFS Drive and Link State Supression.

There are also 2 warnings about win2K server being present, but in the Informational I tems tab, it does recognize the Win2K3 server.

FINALLY!!!!!

I found out that if there are ANY W2K DC's then you must use the CLI installation method. After three attempts at this, the install FINALLY went through.

Woo-freaking-hoo

I think it has been a long enough week. Time for a beer, then back to getting at least one user account transferred.

Hopefully the hard stuff is done.

Nice thing about this, is that Microsoft is making it so you can install Exchange 2007 directly from SP1 so you don't have to install RTM and then SP1. The SP1 installer will be modified so if it sees your infrastructure contains 2000 DCs and 2003 DCs, it'll automatically use the 2003 DC without needing to use the CLI and force it to use a specific DC.

OK, so far so good. I have been running fine for a few days now. I have been monitoring the logs and I get two warinings about the servers being the wrong version. Those are my 2 other Win2000 DC's, so I am fine with those warnings.

I have an error that I need help on. It is
"MSExchange RPC Over HTTP Autoconfig" Event ID: 2003

It says the service is not installed or not properly configured.

I have the service installed, but I am also running OWA without a valide certificate. Could this be the cause of the error?

Make sure the RPC over HTTP Proxy client is installed.

This worked for me sort of....

setup.exe is the GUI only and accepts no command line switches
setup alone with the switches did. I guess it goes through the setup.com first.

This is the same processed we used to installed Exch 2007, its intereswting that the server can only see the domain controller that we forced it to use during the install.

Does anyone know if the fact that we forced the use of that domain controller during the install, would this be preventing it from using our other domain controller.

The event 2080 items only mention the Dc that we originally forced it to use
