Laista -> Best practice moving system to new hardware (10.Sep.2007 5:55:35 AM)

Hi!
I got one Windows2000 SRV stnd edit andexchange2000 on it.
Its about to crash and i need to move all to new hardware.
This old srv is running as domaincontroller and Exchangesrv with just 1 storagegroup.

Best way to handle this?
i dont care about retain old servername and IP adress i just need to make the domain/exchangcontroller to work.
Add a domaincontroller/exchangeserver and  replicate useraccounts/move mailboxes  to it?
Or move all functions to the new hardware (DC and exchange functions) and restore old name etc.
Time is running out !

hi,

If you have old server which is a dc + exchange..
the best method is
1) take backup first
2) join DC server and replicate the user information and move FSMO and make it GC. Install exchange server (although it is not recommended one to be in the same dc )
3) move the mailbox, public (replication) and system folder (replication)
