Hi,
I have Exchange 2k Std on a Win2k Std member server.
Exchange has SP3 installed and no other updates.  When I install the SP3 Rollup, Exchange crashes.  When rebooting the server this is the first error:

Source: MSExchangeMU
Event ID: 1002
Description: Metabase Update agent failed to start.  Error code is 8007000d (the data is invalid).

This causes a domino effect of other services not starting.  The end being the information store does not start.  Removing the rollup returns exchange to a running state.

This appears to be an IIS problem.  Following KB320202 I did the following:
- completely removed IIS and all the files in the inetsrv folder.
- installed IIS.
- applied Win2k SP4, SP4 rollup and further updates.
- re-installed Exchange.
- applied Exchange SP3.

This did not solve the problem.  Installing sp3 rollup still causes the same problems.
So I'm out of ideas.  I plan to migrate to Exchange 2k7 and the rollup is a prerequisite.  Any help would be much appreciated!

pls run exbpa tool (www.exbpa.com) for health check

and also try to install latest hotfix

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/870540

and monitor it.

Before you are installing the hotfix take the backup of the database

Thanks for the reply.
EXBPA told me to disable M: drive and IFS.  I have done that.
I also noticed in IIS, the Exchange websites have the ERROR icon showing.  I'm sure this has something to do with it.  Any ideas with that?

Thanks for the reply.
Where do I look for the error info?  I can see the red Error icons for the exchange websites but don't know where to go from there.

After running the exbpa what is recommendation it is specifying you to follow
