Can anyone tell me if you can deliver email into a public folder and restrict the access to a group of users?  E.g, the external email address is events@ourdomain.co.uk and the users who require access are in a global security security group call "gg_s_events_team".

Yes you can. But maybe its more snese in making it into a mailbox, since Public Folders are expected to be Public.

The solution youre thinking of implemeting is common to what Id call a functional mailbox, ie a mailbox serving a function. Just like events.
