Hi all, I am setting up for the first time an Exchange 2007 with UM. I have 5 DL380 G5 Servers each performing the roles as follows :
1. Domain controller and Unified Messaging.
2. Mailbox role
3. Hub role.
4. Client Access role.
5. Edge Transport role.

I originally had all the roles installed on the Domain controller and have just migrated each of the roles to different Servers. All of the Servers are on a domain except for the Edge Transport Server which is on a workgroup. The DL380s I am using have 2 network ports, so when I had all the roles on one domain Server I had internet going into one of the network ports and the other network port was for the local domain. Now that I have the edge Server protecting all the external internet traffic I assume you have internet going into one port and the other network port goes to a hub to connect with the other servers. My question is how do I get internet sharing to work on the Edge Transport Server. Its easy if I plug  the internet connection into the domain server but im stuck now that my internet connection is on a workgroup server. My domain controller has an ip address of 192.168.0.1 and when I tried to use the internet sharing on the edge transport server it insists on taking the already used address of 192.168.0.1. Do I need to use internet connection sharing or should the send and receive connections deal with internet as well as mail traffic ?

My setup is as follows :
Domain/UM Server 192.168.0.1    domain
Mailbox Server        192.168.0.2    domain
Hub Server              192.168.0.3    domain
Client Access           192.168.0.4    domain
Edge Transport Ser  192.168.0.5    workgroup
Dialogic PIMG         192.168.0.6    domain

All servers have 2 network ports and 1 port on each server are connected together via a hub. The 2nd network port on the Edge Server is connected to the internet.

The domain controller is providing the domain access, DHCP and DNS. All the Server has the DNS setting of 192.168.0.1.

I found I could not get the edge server setup unless it was on the domain, It would not allow me to create a new edge subscription file until I had put it on the same domain. I copied the .xml file into the hub server successfully and then put the Edge transport server back on a workgroup. ADAM is set up ok with the Edge server to allow access to the Active directory.

Any ideas on how to connect a workgroup Edge transport server with internet connection to my other UM role servers which are on a sepearate domain, so each server still gets the internet access ?

Sorry for the longest question in history

Why are you using your server as a router for the internet. I suggest you get a proper hardware router. Routers like the Neatgear ones are GUI based and very easy for you to configure.

NAT all your internet traffic through this router and within the router allow port 25 to be natted to your edge transport server.

Connecting your windows server directly to the internet is dangerous.

If you want you can also use an ISA 2006 Firewall as a router.
