HIya mate, remember the article I sent you before about mailbox moves - worst case scenario in a crash out it that the source MB will be fine, and the desination in complete - therefore if you run a clean up agent on the new server - the moved mailbox will be ready to be purged. Mate I have to go for tonight - I have a report that need urgent attention, if you run into troubles further on post here and mail me - I will pick them up in the morning - I do not mean to leave you in the "lurch" but gotta do the report! Cheers

You are correct they do appear purged. What about the email that was moved? All lost? Phil.

1.15am and I am getting somewhere!! 95% of the machines run in cache mode so I am logging in offline and exporting the .ost as a .pst. I will then import the pst into their new mailbox. There are a few users who are runninf outlook 2002 so I am unable to adopt this approach with them. Some of the users have 2/3/4GB mailboxes, lets call this a cleanup operation!! Will post back, Phil.

Hiya mate, the move mailbox process does nto delete items from the source MB until the process finishes. Therefore you can purge the mailboxes in the target store and then attempt to move them again - whats the SP on the rest of the mission. Cheers A

Andy I am still here, been at it all night. All Mailboxes moved with no loss (well no complaints!!). Other problems. Server running slow, emails build up in the SMTP Virtual Server queue. We also have a connector that sent out via smart host: cluster3out.au.messagelabs.com I have removed this and set to use DNS......... I killed the SMTP Virtual Server then restarted.......No mail in the queue + I sent external mail OK. Not convinced this is resolved? Should I take the old server off line for a couple of hours? Thanks for all your hard work. Phil.

Another issue the FD here can not open her mailbox. One of the errors was along the lines of: Exchange server reported error 0x8007005 You do not have permission to perform the requested operation? Something like that. She can not connect at all on her own laptop (I connected via my desktop). Her laptop complains about the OST and she can't open her default mail folders?? Phil.

Hiya, what are the event logs suggesting, have you turned on the advanced view in ADUC and then had a look at the security and mailbox permissions? Cheers A

Hiya everyone, just so people know. Phil and I have managed to sort out the FD mailbox problem which seemed to be connected to a "hosts" file on their laptop. We may of uncovered the cause of the message queues clogging up every hour or so being down to a Sophos Messaging Product - although due to work Phil had to do yesterday we cannot confirm that yet. The problem that we know is outstanding now is when shutting down the old server it seemed to freeze the installation giving an error message of: quote:
The error I got when I pulled the plug on the first exchange server was along the lines of: 0x800706BA failed to retrieve queues for the SMTP Virtual Server. Machine froze and would not shut down had to force a hard shutdown (fingers crossed on that one!! So hoping to look into that today. Cheers

Issue one (mail build up in queues): I had Pure Message installed on both servers (the penny dropped last night). I came in then uninstalled from the older server, all appears OK. As regards how ESM tracks messages with PM enabled. I spoke with Sophos support and tried a couple of things. When email tagging is enabled within Pure Message exchange fails to report delivery to local store. This is a bug with Pure Message apparently. They have shipped my logs to their development team (he will have a look when he gets in from school :) ) Phil.

With much help from Andy the problem appears to have been caused by a connector within a routing group. The connector was removed and email has been flowing . Strange as the connector worked previously..... Many thanks to Andy for his assistance on this issue, way beyond what I expected, superb. Phil.
