I am preparing for my first Exchange 2007 install.  I know that E2K7 requires 64 bit hardware, OS, etc.

In reading Microsoft's article "How to Prepare Active Directory and Domains,"  and E2K7: Platforms, Editions, and Versions. I am confused on a couple of statements I hope someone can clarify.

AD preparation: /preparelegacyexchangepermissions /prepareschema /preparead and preparedomain  - should these be done on the AD Schema Master?  Our Schema Master is W2K3 SP2.  MS's article says that these switches can be run on either 32 or 64 bit computer.  If I run on the Schema master which is 32 bit, do I need to run E2K7 32 bit version? or If I use my E27 install DVD, will I be all set to run these switches on the Schema master?

Thanks for any clarification on this.

Hiya, my fellow moderator Henrik might shed some further light on this - however from what I understand is if you wish to update the Directory for Exchange 2007 and currently only have 32bit hardware in the forest / domain then you can use the 32bit version - whilst I was looking at upgrades paths I prepped my domain controllers using the 32 bit Eval / Test lab version of Exchange and then later installed by 64bit Exchange servers - which worked a treat - however I also found the following article to backup my findings (as I have been know to be wrong) http://msmvps.com/blogs/clustering/archive/2007/03/26/how-to-install-exchange-server-2007-schema-extensions-within-a-32-bit-active-directory-environment.aspx

Good luck and hope this helps,

Thank You.  In reading MS's article about preparing AD, it mentioned the 32bit version which I did download and I thought yes I must use this on my Schema master; however, reading further into the document it said that you can prepare ad on a 32 or 64 bit server.

and thanks for the link....
