Hi everyone!

I'm have an issue with Exchange 2007 regarding outbound mail, the internal IP/Name of my server is being appended to the SMTP Received header (i.e.: 192.168.0.5 / server1.network.local) and I'd obviously like it to have my external IP address along with the FQDN (i.e.: 206.213.10.292 / mail.network.com), but I don't know where to do this.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Pat

This is very simple:

One the Edge Transport server assign the following Transport Rule:

From Users Inside the Organisation
Remove Received    (the rule is Remove Headers, click on headers and type Received).

Than on the Send Connector on your Edge server set the FQDN to the DNS name of your MX record on the edgesync - default-first-site-name to internet.

Good you ask this because no mail server should EVER give away any route the mail took inside your organisation... thats a big security risk.

Ok, so it removed the 'Received' header but I noticed in the Message ID the local server name is there too, any suggestions?

Example:

Message-ID: <2024AW6BE41E354DBASDA08723432442343241AAAA@server.network.local>

PS: Thanks BTW :)

Sorry forgot to include that:

simply make another Transport rule and this time the header you want to remove is Message-ID

Just check that you dont use the Message-ID internally for ay application tracking, ect. The Message-ID is not a required header when you look at the RFC for SMTP Protocol.

This worked great for me, but what about:

Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
boundary="_000_D997A8854EF90A4FB39AC6D9063793D00695408Emyservernamcom

Your thoughts on this?  It has my server name in this portion as well...

I've the same problem, but with Exchange 2003. Please suggest to me how can I remove the Receive message header containing the private information of my exchange server.

Thanks for your help

Every email I get from an Employee of Microsoft has all this info so Microsoft isn't too worried about this.

A bit with the reply...However we all know that Microsoft is not always right.

And just because they do someone in a particular way does not mean that we should do it also.

Trying to reduce your internal network exposure should be the key task for any Network Administrator / Security Administrator.

Every little Helps!
