whiteloom -> Native mode error (22.Nov.2007 10:44:35 AM)

Hi all,

I'm trying to install a brand new E2k7 on a 64-bits AMD machine. Server config 4 gigs of RAM, 300 gigs HD.

Got a native Win2k3 domain and forest.
2 servers.

Server1: Win2k3 R2, DC, DHCP, DNS
Server2: Win2k3 R2 64-bits.

they both went through the whole Windows update patching process.

When installing Exchange 2k7, .Net framework 2.0 checks and is installed.
MMC installed.
Powershell installed.

Try to install E2k7 on the 64-bits machine, I get the following error:
The Exchange organization is not in native mode.

I don't understand the error. My forest is in native mode. My domain is in native mode. Don't have any prior Exchange server installed.

What am I missing? something basic and simple that I overlooked?

thanks in advance for any reply...

hi mate,

Open Exchange System Manager (Exchange 2003)
right organization name => Properties => Operation  => If it is showing mixed mode then change it to native mode by click on change mode

If you want to see the print screen of changing mode  see this link (picture : Figure 6)

Ismail,

i think he says he has no prior exchange server at all

whiteloom -> RE: Native mode error (22.Nov.2007 2:14:44 PM)

That is correct, no other email server installed, that's why I wrote on the first line, brand new installation of E2k7.

I apologize if I wasn't clear.

Brand new install of 2 Win2k3 R2 servers, the DC is 32-bits and the potential Exchange server, 64-bits.

There are no other software installed but the base Operating system with the Windows update patches (including .NET framework)

hi mates,

Sorry for the confusion, white you should not apologize, actually i need to apologize because it is clear cut statement which i failed to read it[:(]

Anyway[;)]
If you open ADSIEDIT : Configuration => Services => Msexchange (r u able to see any list of exchange server information)

My best would be I will install EXBPA (www.exbpa.com) and will run Exbpa tool by select Exchange 2007 readiness. to check this information.

Hey,

I hope you are aware of the list of commands to prepare the AD forest n AD domain (prepareAD, prepareSchema) b4 u jump for installation. As stated by Ismail, check in Adsiedit if you do have a Microsoft Exchange container. If yes and YOU DID MENTION YOU DONT HAVE ANY OTHER EXCHANGE SERVER, i would recommend take a system state backup and delete the microsoft exchange container and start afresh (again, i am writing those letters in bold cause by deleting that container you are practically removing exchange from entire AD).

do let us know what happend next.

One more thing. incase you feel its too risky to delete damn anything, check for attribute msExchMixedMode on the organization container beneath Microsoft Exchange, it should be set to false for Exchange to be in native mode. try this.
