Hi all,
I'm new tot this forum and I have a very urgent problem (like always my job depends on it :) )

We have 1 Exchange 2007 Standard Server (rollup 5) installed on an W2K3 Standard R2 (which is also one of the two DC's with global catalog server on it)  Exchange have all roles except edge.
The topology does not imply an edge server, (it goes out directly by an ISA server- NAT)

PROBLEM: Around 10% of the messages are kept several hours in the submission queue with DnsConntectorDelivery delivery type. All others messages (internal or external) goes just fine.

The remote MX server are perfecttly visible with nslookup (set q=mx) from that machine using the same ns server, and if I use telnet <remote ip> 25 everything seems OK.

1. I've changed the send conector configuration several times.
2. Internal mail is perfectly OK.
3. There is no pattern for the remote domains on which the queue is blocking (even yahoo.com sometimes).
4. After a time, 3 or 4 hours, those messages are delivered.

I really do not know what to do next, except downgrade to 2k3.
Here is output for get-sendconnector:

AddressSpaces                : {smtp:*;1}
AuthenticationCredential     :

and the output for one of those queues:

DeliveryType     : DnsConnectorDelivery
NextHopDomain    : totalsoft.ro
NextHopConnector : 0872ac6a-0b58-41df-9719-9d0e1b73a934

Other mentions: I had F-secure install on that server but was uninstalled.
Many thanks and any help will be highly appreciated

does the delay happen only when sending mail to certain domains only?

Unfortunatelly not, even on yahoo.com it hapened.
I don't find any pattern of those messages nor the sending user nor the recipient.
Thank you.

Are you sure its nothing to do with an actual DNS or Network issue?

Can you setup another DNS Server on your domain and than set your exchange server to use this DNS server instead?

Have you checked to see if you are on any IP Blacklists.

The exchange machine is also root domain controller with DNS server which have the internal AD integrated zone, this DNS server have as forward server the DNS installed on ISA Server which connect directly to the internet.
I also suspect a DNS issue so first config of the HUB Transport server was with it's own DNS and after that I have reconfigured the HUB Transport Server with the DNS from the provider -public ip adress- (and reconfigured also the send connector in the same way).
Each time I have checked with nslookup against the configured DNS server for MX record and the nslookup returns records just fine.
On the same network there is also a second domain controller which also have DNS server on it (also with internal AD integrated zone and also with ISA DNS as forwarder).
The Exchange server machine itself it is configured with the second DC as first DNS (in the TCP-IP stack of the Local Area Connection).

Adittional info:
Sometimes on the message queue I see that on the last error:
Primary target IP adress respond with "421 4.2.1 Unable to connect"
Attempted failover to alternate host but that did not succed.
Either there are .....

But on the get-queue -Identity "c10\105" | fl it does not return a think on the LastError.
I think that mean that my Exchange connect to the remote MX but something goes wrong ...

try one thing...i take it that you are using the SMTP Application level filter within ISA in your outgoing rule.

Change the rule so that although smtp is allowed outbound, the SMTP Filter is not used. Just want to rule out that the application filter on the ISA for SMTP does not need any tweaks.
